Tambuwal wins Sokoto State Governorship Election


The Speaker of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, Aminu Tambuwal, has won the Sokoto State Governorship Election. Honourable Tambuwal got the highest vote in all the 23 Local Government Areas in the State.

APC and PDP lawmakers jostle for House Speaker job


A Professor of Law and Political Science, Mojeed Alabi, has joined the league of members of the House of Representatives, warming up to contest the leadership of the green chamber during the inauguration of the eighth National Assembly in June.

The lawmaker, a first-time member in the lower chamber, was former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, from Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency.

Abuja Court voids House of Reps Summons on Petroleum Minister



A Federal High Court in Abuja today set aside the letter of invitation issued by the House of Representatives to the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke, to appear before the House to provide explanations over allegations that she spent 10 billion Naira on a private aircraft charter.

Mass Defection in House of Reps


The carpet crossing drama in the National Assembly doesn't seem to have entered just yet as more many more legislators in the House of Representatives today announced their defection to other political parties.

Five members of the House representing Ogun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) decamped to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The cited the crisis in the Ogun State chapter of the APC as the reason for dumping the party.

Tambuwal vs FG: Court adjourns case indefinitely


Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the case filed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives against the Inspector General of Police and the Federal Government indefinitely. This is coming after three members of Kebbe Tambuwal Federal Constituency in Sokoto State filed a motion for a stay of proceedings. The members had taken their case to the Court of Appeal to challenge a previous ruling on the suit by a lower court disallowing them to join the suit as co-defendants.

Tambuwal reacts to rumours of his arrest


In reaction to rumours that have been circulating the Nigerian media in the last 24 hours that the Inspector General of Police has ordered that the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tamuwal should be invited to the Force Headquarters for questioning on his alleged role in the crisis that engulfed the National Assembly on Thursday morning, and that he should be arrested if he resisted, the Speaker has now issued a statement saying that he is ready to respond to the invitation by the police.

Chaos at the National Assembly as police fire tear gas at lawmakers


Drama unfolded at the National Assembly complex on Thursday morning as police officers engaged in thorough screening of lawmakers and denied some of them entry into the premises. Many of the lawmakers had to climb the entrance gate in order to gain access to the legislative chambers.
