Supreme Court dismisses suit against Jonathan’s eligibility
Nigeria's apex court has dismissed an appeal filed by Mr Umar Ardo, a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging a judgement of the Court of Appeal preventing him from joining in the appeal challenging the eligibility of President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2015 presidential election.
The panel of seven justices led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, ruled that Ardo had no business joining in the appeal challenging the President’s eligibility because no law stopped him from taking part in the PDP convention.
With this new development, Nigeria's incumbent President has scaled a major hurdle as he seeks another four years in office under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
