More calls for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the general elections scheduled for this month have continued to come, this time from some delegates at the 2014 National Conference.
At a one-day symposium on the National Conference and the 2015 Election, many of the delegates were of the opinion that the electoral umpire is not ready to successfully conduct elections this month considering the fact that a large amount of Permanent Voters Card is yet to be distributed to registered voters. They advised INEC to ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised.
The delegates also expressed discontent over the non-implementation of the National Conference report. According to them, it is a thing of worry that none of the presidential candidates has taken it as a serious issue during political campaigns. 'We want to be sure that whoever wins the election will implement the report,' one of the delegates said
INEC through its Chief Press Secretary, Kayode Idowu, has however dismissed the call for postponement of the polls noting that the deadline for collection of PVCs has already been extended to enable those yet to collect their cards to do so in time. He also stressed that the commission is doing everything necessary to ensure that the elections are conducted in a credible and transparent manner.
