Obasanjo nets brace, wins golden boot at birthday novelty match


Nigeria's Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, got on the score sheet twice in a novelty match organized as part of activities to mark his 78th birthday. The match was played on Wednesday between the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) team and that of the Ogun state government at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Captain Obasanjo missed a couple of chances but still proved a stumbling block for the opposition team skippered by Governor Ibikunle Amosun, as he netted a brace to ensure his side finished the game 2-1 winners.



Obasanjo's five-aside team members included: Professor Akin Mabogunje, Chief O. Olopade, Deacon Victor Durodola and Prof Peter Okebukola. The opponents led by Governor Amosun, were Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Bimbo Ashiru, Commissioner Environment, Ayo Olubori, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Muyiwa Oladipo


The former President was awarded the golden boot, while Governor Ibikunle Amosun won the Most Valuable Player award. Goalkeeper for the OOPL, Akin Maboguje, 83, received the golden glove award.
