Military arrests Boko Haram members disguised as women

Nigerian troops have continued to record success in the intensified efforts to stamp out Boko Haram insurgents from all territories under their control in North-Eastern part of the country, as some members of the deadly sect disguised as women were arrested on Monday.

Nigerian Military Reclaims Baga From Boko Haram

A statement released on today by the Director, Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, confirms that the Nigerian military have recaptured the border town of Baga in Borno State, North East Nigeria from the Boko Haram insurgents. The Defence Spokesperson revealed that several items including: 5 anti air craft guns and rifles were recovered from members of the sect. Over 34 motorcycles and 5 vehicles including trucks being used by the insurgents for operations were destroyed as the troops engaged them.

Military promises to ensure safety during elections

The Nigerian military has vowed to ensure a safe atmosphere as the country prepares to go to the polls. In an interview with Voice of America, the Director Of Defense Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, said with the increased regional cooperation that Nigeria is receiving at the moment, he has no doubt that the military will provide adequate security for the exercise.

APC accuses military of planning to help PDP rig elections

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Nigerian Military of being in an unholy and dangerous alliance with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to subvert the democratic will of the people. At a news conference in Abuja, the APC Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, alleged that the ruling party is also planning to use the military to intimidate voters in APC-governed states and rig the coming election in favour of President Jonathan.

Army General, senior officers arrested over Baga attack

The Nigerian military has arrested a Brigadier General, a Lieutenant Colonel and five other officers of the Nigerian Army attached to the Baga headquarters of Multinational Joint Task Force, which was taken over by Boko Haram insurgents recently. Reports indicate that military authorities are angry about the attack and take over of Baga when the Army was fortified with sufficient weapons in anticipation of an onslaught against the terrorists.

The Nigerian military has dismissed recent media reports by American-based Cable News Network (CNN) on soldiers expressing frustration in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents describing it as blackmail. Reacting to a video footage aired by the American-based station of interviews with individuals claiming to be Nigerian soldiers, the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, said that the Nigerian armed forces are fully committed and focused on defeating the insurgents and restoring peace to affected states.

Military repel attack on Damaturu

Defence Spokesperson, Major Gen. Chris Olukolade has confirmed that the Nigerian military repelled an attempt by Boko Haram insurgents to take over Damaturu, Yobe State. The terrorists launched a massive attack on the state capital in the late hours of Friday but were eventually pursued by the military after hours of gun battle.

Maku canvasses support for anti-terror war
