Prof Akinyemi condemns Xenophobic Attacks in S/Africa; asks FG to take action

Nigeria’s former Foreign Affairs Minister, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, on Wednesday condemned the xenophobic attacks on Africans and other foreign nationals in South Africa. He also called on the Nigerian government to remind the South African government of a possible consequence on their investments in Nigeria if such attacks continue.

In a bid to prevent the post-election violence that greeted the nation in the aftermath of the 2011 general elections, a former Foreign Affairs Minister and Deputy Chairman of the 2014 National Conference, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi has called on Presidential Aspirants to sign a memorandum of undertaking to control their supporters and preach peaceful elections.

FG announce Leadership of National Conference

Ahead of the proposed National Conference, President Goodluck Jonathan has announced the names of those who will pilot the affairs of the gathering. They include: the Chairman, a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Idris Lebo Kutigi; Deputy Chairman, Bolaji Akinyemi; and Secretary, Dr. (Mrs) Valerie Aziye.

They are to commence work on Wednesday 5 March, 2014.
