Nyako impeached by Adamawa Assembly

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has impeached Governor Murtala Nyako after considering the report by a panel of inquiry set up to investigate allegations of corruption levelled against the Governor and his deputy. Although both parties failed to turn up at the hearing, the panel went ahead with its deliberations.

Gov. Al-Makura handed impeachment notice

The Clerk of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has served Gov. Tanko Al-Makura with notice of impeachment for ‘gross misconduct’. According to The News Agency of Nigeria, ‘the development followed a motion of public interest raised by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Mr Yahaya Usman (PDP-Umaisha/Ugya) during plenary in Lafia.’ The motion was seconded by the Chief Whip Mr Mohammed Okpede (also a member of the PDP).

Malala pays 3-day visit to Nigeria, meets President Jonathan

Miss Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani girl who was almost lost her life after an attack by the Taliban in her country’s Swat Valley District for her girl education campaigns, has commenced a three-day visit to Nigeria. The 17-year-old girl met with President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

German Machines defeat Argentina in World Cup Final

Germany wrapped up a wonderful campaign by defeating Argentina 1-0 to become the first European team to win the World Cup on South American soil. Both sides failed to find the back of the net in 90 minutes and so the game was forced into extra time.

Netherlands defeat Brazil in third place match

Louis van Gaal's Netherlands team yesterday defeated the host nation, Brazil in the third place match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Thiago Silva should have been sent off in the third minute after a bad challenge on Arjen Robben but the Brazilian Captain got away with only a yellow card and a penalty awarded to the Dutch which Robin Van Persie converted.

ASUP suspends strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has suspended its nine-month strike. National President of ASUP, Mr Chibuzor Asomugha, who disclosed this information also confirmed that the polytechnic lecturers would resume work on Tuesday.

Asomugha noted that the strike has been suspended for a period of three months, to give the government time to meet the demands of ASUP.

Kefee laid to rest

The remains of the late Delta-born gospel singer, Kefee, were committed to mother earth on Friday in her home town, Okpara Inland of Ethiope East Local Government.
A homecoming service was held in honour of the late Branama Queen at Akpevweoghene Educational Centre, Okpara Inland of Ethiope East Local Government, Delta State. Friends and relatives as well as thousands of fans gathered to pay their last respect to the late singer.
Kefee died in the United States of America last month after being in a coma for a few weeks.

Germany and Argentina to battle for World Cup glory

Germany and Argentina are both through to the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The German Machines defeated hosts Brazil in a game that should probably have ended at half time.

African teams eliminated in World Cup Round of 16

The last two African teams - Algeria and Nigeria - who qualified from the group stage of the world cup, have both been knocked out of the tournament, ending any hope of a world cup glory for the first time.

Nigeria lost to France courtesy of a late goal from Pogba and an own goal by Captain Joseph Yobo. Germany were forced into extra time by Algeria but still triumphed 2-0 against the North African team.
