Real Madrid are Champions of Europe!


Real Madrid have clinched La Decima, their record 10th European Cup after coming from behind to beat their La Liga rivals, Athletico Madrid 4-1 in Lisbon.

Athletico had gone 1-0 up late in the first half after a blunder by Los Blancos Captain, Iker Cascilas. The La Liga Champions put on a good display in the second 45 and were hoping to see the game through but in the nick of time Sergio Ramos's powerful header forced the game to extra time.

Military takes over government in Thailand


Few hours after the introduction of martial law in Thailand, the military in that country has staged a coup, taking over the government after months of political tension. It is understood that the rival parties in the country had failed to reach an agreement on how to move the country forward.

Court declines jurisdiction in Sanusi's suit against Jonathan


A Federal High Court on Tuesday declined jurisdiction to entertain a suit filed by Mallam Sanusi Lamido, challenging his suspension as Central Bank Governor by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Presiding Judged noted that the case brought before him was an industrial matter and should therefore be handled by the Industrial Court.

Twin blasts kill many in Jos


At least 45 people have died after two bombs went off near a marketplace in Jos, the Plateau State Capital on Tuesday afternoon. Both explosions occurred within 30 minutes.

The State Commissioner of Police told journalists that the number of casualties could increase. He also confirmed that the attacks were executed by suicide bombers.

Manchester United appoint Van Gaal as Manager


Manchester United today announced the appointment on Dutch national coach, Louis van Gaal as their new manager. The English giants also confirmed that Ryan Giggs, the club's most decorated player, will be assistant to the Netherlands coach.

The Dutch is to resume his new position when the Netherlands world cup campaign ends.

Manchester City have won the English Premier League for the second time in three years after a 2-0 victory over Sam Allardyce's West Ham United. Goals from Samir Nasri and Captain Vincent Kompany saw the Citizens take full advantage of Liverpool's slip in the title race.

FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has indicated that he has no plan to step down as head of football's governing body by disclosing that he will seek re-election for a fifth term in office. Incredible!

Nigeria get international support to fight terrorism


Following the recent abduction of more than 200 female students from a school in Chibok town, Borno State, Nigeria has received assurances from the international community of support in the fight against terror and the rescue of the kidnapped girls.

South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has secured a commanding victory at the recently conducted general election paving way for the incumbent President Jacob Zuma to remain in office for another term.

Boko Haram claim responsibility for Chibok abduction

Islamist militant group, Boko Haram have released a video in which the terrorist group claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of more than 200 female students from a school in a Borno State on April 14.

Leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau, threatened to sell the girls noting that "I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah..There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women."

Meanwhile, the action of the terrorist group has received condemnation from the international scene. A statement by Rupert Colville, the spokesman for U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, stressed that "The girls must be immediately returned, unharmed, to their families."
